Organ-On-a-Chip Platform
One of the ongoing areas of research by Dr. Nguyen is to generate a biomimetic liver-on-a-chip with engineered perfusable vascular structures that interact with hepatocytes and other non-parenchymal cells in the liver such as Stellate and Kupffer cells. The ultimate goal of this biomimetic liver-on-a-chip is to unveil the complex cellular communications and study the molecular mechanisms within the liver tissue during both developmental and disease conditions in vitro.
